Yikes: Miami is #98 out of 100 on a list of the most walkable cities in the US. The main criteria was the percentage of people who walk for exercise. Contrast with an older study (no date) which looked at people who walk to work — Miami was #79 there. (via TM)

I wonder what the percentage would be if you factor in Miami-Dade County, not just city of Miami. These lists always seem to factor only the city, not the entire county. It may not be a lot higher, but based on the number of people I see walking around in my neighborhood and in the little parks that dot suburbia, I think we’d be much higher than 98.

It would be interesting to see that, Robert. Of course outside of Miami there are also great big suburbs where walking to anything but other houses is impossible. Miami Beach of course is very walkable; in fact, many people who live here don’t even own a car.

wow hialeah is better than miami. I never walk there, but it’s funny they consider as different city. (i mean it is, but is it officially?)
