Freedom Tower Fate, Tonight!

Freedom tower, previously discussed here and here, is being voted on tonight, at 7 pm. This would be a public hearing, where citizen input will be heard and taken into consideration. If you’re not sure you want to go and speak, consider the developer’s recent attitude.

Update: The Dade Heritage Trust is fighting this permit. They suggest you contact your commissioners (the site has contact information) and let ‘em know how you feel.

Update (7/21): When the board is split evenly, the issue is unresolved, and goes to the City Commission.

Thanks for linking to an article at the herald that I can’t read

Bug Me Not added to the links list for your, and every one else’s, convenience. And I won’t ever want to hear about registration problems again. Just lie to the Herald once and be done with it.

Well, congratulations. The decision to build has been postponed ‘til later this month, when the city commission has the final say.

Look, people. That’s valuable property there, and this builder is planning to make it pay its way. All of us benefit.

So here’s my latest idea. The builder promised to put $10 million into Freedom Tower’s restoration. So pick it up and set it aside while he builds his 62 story condo unit. Then haul the Tower, intact, up to the very top of the condo building, and re-install it, like a spire. You can turn the damn place into a museum or a shrine or the domino hall of fame for all I care, but now you kept it intact, the builder gets his condo, and the city gets a gigantic new shiny revenue-producing building for its skyline. Win-Win. And no charge for my brilliance, either.

The Planning Advisory Board is a pack of invertebrates. Make that inarticulate invertebrates. From the Herald:

“The integrity of the building will be intact.’’
    —Board member Robert Young

What the hell does that mean? Integrity isn’t what “stays intact.” Then again, what would this clutch of hooting gibbons know about integrity, anyway? Kiss the Tower good-bye, Miami.
